Don picked up a few games and we decided to give them a shot.
First up was Wings of War. I had told Don about this one a few months ago and we both wanted to try it out. I gotta say, even being the first one out, I liked this silly game. The rules are simple and it doesn't take a long time to play. You get a very simple set of cards to move your plane, when you get close enough to fire, the person you hit gets damage cards. Some of the damage cards have special damage on them, like the person firing gets a jammed gun for 3 moves. The games plays like a table-top version of Ace Of Aces. To me the turn system reminds me of Robo Rally. I like the game play with more people, once you get down to two players the game slows down and the planes seem to overshoot a lot. Early in the game everyone was bunched up and I took shots from both Ray and Pritch, my shot jammed my gun, not a good thing to happen in tight combat! I'm sure we will break this out again for a filler.
San Marco was next, I had played it with Mike and Kendra, so I remembered a little about the game. The neat part of the game is the card selection. Depending on the amount of players, the start player gets a set of cards and must make stacks for the players to choose from. The big catch is, the choosing player get whatever is left over. I didn't care for the four player version as much because you have two choosers instead of one. With three players you make three stacks, so the decision is a little harder and they are forced to make a good choice of screw themselves over. The board play is simple, the person with the most pieces in an area scores first place and second gets the lower amount. The only thing about scoring on the board that I didn't like, was the fact that a lot of the areas only had a one point difference between first and second. I used this to my advantage late in the game to hold my lead. Prich made a few discussions early in the game that gave me a lead, if it would have went the other way, it would have been Ray. I think everyone liked the game.
