Well, after a long break from updating the site, I thought I would start again. We have been doing a lot of Road Rallies, I think this has taken most of our free Saturday nights.

Ray picked up the expansions for Lunch Money so we tried that out first. I still like the game but it's hard remembering what the cards do. I think this took its toll on most of us so we only played one game. The new cards are not bad but they are missing a lot of the magic that made the original set so great. The humor is not as dark, that's strange when you think about the new set being "Beer Money"! Jolene M. went down first after being humiliated in front of everyone. Michelle M. was soon to follow in another humiliation. Rayla hung on for a while with his weapon but it just wasn't enough to stand against the might of Priscilla P.! I had mustered my strength in the end and took Priscilla P. out with two health cards to spare!

I had been wanting to try the new version of Modern Art out, and I got my wish. I think this set is not as nice but they may have fixed a few things. John M. and Ray made great buys but John must have made must one better purchase. I thought Prich had me the whole game but he was spending a little too heavy, he felt the call of the Lite Metal!

I'm not sure how the first game of Ticket To Ride went, it was going on while we played Modern Art. They did say they had a good game. Jen thought she was winning right up until the end.

We wanted to try Maharaja, so Don caved and played with us. I think everyone like the game, we just didn't play all the actions like we should have. I think the game needed to be played a little more like Citadels. I would like to try it but it was luke warm at best.

Ray was excited to play Ticket To Ride so we did get in one last game. (we wanted to play it too!) I think everyone liked this a little better than Union Pacific, it's a nice light version. (note from Ray (I do NOT like ticket to ride better than Union Pacific.  As a matter of fact, I did not like it even HALF as much.  Too much parallel play and lack of conflict.))  I got a great set of tickets at the start so I was golden as long as I played it cool. John M. was going strong all the game until the end, like the others, he fell victim to me getting a lucky set of tickets. Ray likes Attila better, I'm not sure as it has been a long time for me. I liked it because it was lighter than other games of this type.

PS That did not come out right, I think I did this a little late last night (after 2am). I don't think it's a better game, but I do think it would have a better chance of hitting the table more because of the shorter play time. I do think that the luck factor on the ticket draw hurts the game. The comparison to Attila is better but I like Attila more.

Laura Ray Steve
Suzanne

When John and I showed up, Laura and Suzanne seemed locked in am epic struggle over a backgammon  board. I have no idea of the outcome but I'm sure the battle was fierce!

The men folk had another battle going on at the main table, it was a playground full of girls and they fought with very dirty tactics! I don't know who the victor was but she was missing both front teeth and her skirt was torn in the most un-lady-like way!

Modern Art makes it again, it's a good bidding game. I think the only problem with this game is that once people play, they like to cut things off a little faste. I'm not sure if that's a bad thing, but we did have a good time. Prich bought a little wiser but some of his purchases seemed a little strange. Don went hog wild on some of his purchases and bought paintings for more than they would ever sell for, even if they took first place. Ray and I got stuck in the middle.

I've been wanting to play Goa all week. Our group has a hard time playing a game for the first time. Impatiens and  not knowing the rules and cards take a toll on people. I came in dead last but I still liked the game. Like Maharaja, I think we went into the game at a wrong angle. It is true that the game is lacking in conflict, but I think it makes up for it in other ways. If the game pace was picked up, I think the game would get a better review from the others.
