First game up was a new card game called You're Bluffing, this is a reprint of an older, runner up for game of the year, game. The game is made up of animals in sets of four and money cards, your hand is made up of a set amount of money and two bluff cards. On a players turn they may flip the top animal of try a cattle trade, if they flip an animal it is up for bids and the everyone but the player who flipped it may bid. When you have a winning bid the cost goes to the current player but that player has the option of buying the animal for the winning bid too (this money would go to the winning bidder (free money!)). The person that buys the animal places it in front of him/her. If the current player has the matching animal of another player, they can call a cattle trade (for the same amount of animals, 1 for 1 or 2 for two). The player who initiates the trade places a bid on the table face down, the challenged player can pick up the bid and just hand over the animal, or can place a counter bid. If two bids are made, they are flipped over and the highest bid wins, the bids are paid to the opposite player, that makes for some very cheap buy, most of the time. When all the sets are completed on the table, the game is over, they are scored by worth of set x number of sets. The big thing about this games is, the money is set, so everyone starts out on even feet, when a donkey is flipped you get a bonus money card, 50 for the first, 100 second 200 third and 500 fourth. My only problem with the game was the length, but I think that was a player problem, not a game flaw, we gave too much time for bidding, the players need to speed up the pace.

Ed brought a new game Medina. We all compared it to Torres, although I went so far as to say I liked it better. Less esoteric. The rest was fluff and fun with even liar's dice hitting the table again.
Medina Winner Ashley/Suzanne 39 - Ray 38 - John P. 37 - Ed 35
Well, Ray is just too busy to make proper comments, so I will try to fill in. As you know, I am a bit dry when it comes to writing so I'm not a good color man.
Heimlich & Co. was dragged out once again, Ashley had never played so she was a bit lost. This game does take a few plays to get the hang of. As we found out, knowing your color in the first part of the game is not important, Suzanne didn't look at her card and won the game. I, on the other hand, showed my color too soon and was the butt of every move. Even being picked on a bit after exposing my color, the thing that lost the game for me was, I got no ones color right, this dropped me to last place.
Heimlich & Co. Winner Suzanne 52 - Ray 39 - Ed 33 - Steve 33 - John P. 27 - Ashley 24
Looking for a quick closer, we decided to play two, first up was Liar's Dice. As everyone knows, Prich never wins! Prich and Tom came down to one on one dice. Prich shot from the hip and took Steve down!
Liar's Dice Winner John P. - Tom - Ray - Ed - Suzanne - Steve - Ashley
Last, but not least, everyone's favorite closer, Take 6. I have no idea how Ray does it, but I would guess, pure blind luck! I know why I end in dead last, I just plain suck at Take 6, but I still love it.
Take 6 Winner Ray 1 - Suzanne 23 - Steve 25 - John P. 27 - Ashley 28 - Ed 67

Short game week, first we introduced Don B. to Medici. This time I took Rays ploy of getting a free/cheap boat. Round one, I had the highest free boot ever, 20 points! This gave me biggest boat and shot me into the lead. This pissed Ray off to no end, this cost me the game and gave it to Mike. Round two and three was not good for me, every time I tried for a lot, Ray thwarted me. Bad for me, good for Mike!
Medici Winner Mike M. 130 - Ed 127 - Ray 120 - Don B. 116 John P. 86
Ra was pulled out for the next and last game. I'm not sure if this was a good move, it is a bit long and didn't leave enough time for a closer. Don was a virgin again, he ran away with the game by grabbing all the monuments, he was in back of the pack until the last score. Mike had the biggest Nile score of all time, he had a total of 10 the last score!
Ra Winner Don B. 44 - Mike M. 40 - Ray 34 - Ed 32 - John P. 12

Land Unter
Spades
Union Pacific
Werewolf

I hoped to get in a quick game of Carlos Magnus but Ray quickly put the kibosh on this (not his fault, he made 5). Ray was geeked to play Union Pacific or Settlers, a quick hand vote and Union Pacific was chosen. It was a very even paced game, even with all the shares that I "gave" Prich, he never seemed to have a nice cash haul. The rush for the Union Pacific shares left Prich weighed, measured and found wanting, so this may be the reason he fell short. It's very hard to put my thumb on one reason for the outcome, I won purely on two rail lines and my tie for top Union Pacific shares. Everyone seemed to have nice sets of shares, Prich had a firm hold on two of the top lines, shouldn't he have won? Still this is a great game, and I enjoy playing it very much. Usually, this game burns the one who does not execute options until it is too late. This is the first time where I did not witness a single TRAP. Everyone had stock optioned constantly.
Union Pacific Winner Ed 163M - Steve 160M - Ray 133M - John P. 119M
Don and Noelle showed up after we had chosen to play Union Pacific, for some reason, they chose to play Spades, I guess they don't get enough of this online. Hey, more power to 'em!
Spades Winner Ashley/Noelle 503 - Don/Jenny 407
As you know, we love to play Werewolf, that silly party game, we haven't played for a long time, so everyone was ready! Jen evern found a little time to join us in a game! The Villagers are just too dame good! I dunno, but this game is really dependant on the group dynamics of the given night. This week, I just could not get into the game.... just me? I think you are right, I think we needed a bit more lubrication!
Werewolf Villagers 3 - Werewolves 1
Another game that hasn't been played in a long time, Land Unter! This is a great game, I don't think any other card game is this well thought out. Don and Noelle had never played, they gave no input, so I don't know if they liked the game. Again, three of us ran close the whole game. Yes, this game was close. But the hands were so DRASTIC!
Land Unter Winner Ed 14 - John P. 12 - Ray 11 - Don 8 - Noelle 7

Game Night: Saturday 3-30-2002

This small cozy group of guys decided to pull out the big guns and play Settlers of Catan. This was a first for Steve, who came over on a break from "porno and beer" (code for when the wife takes the kids out of town). Steve has also mp3'd McLean and McLean. Did you know one of them died this past summer? Don't know them? Ask next time your over. Think Dice Clay, only funny.
I won this game by sheer force of will. Oh yes, and I really pimped Ed by covering the '6'. I was not only pimped by the 6 being covered, Prich pimped me on another resource, Ray did it to me early in the game by covering the much needed sheep that I had a 2 for 1 trade. My biggest boot-to-the-head was when I finally had a good round Prich rolled a 7 and I lost half of my cards. This was the roughest game, of Settlers, I have ever played.
Settlers of Catan Winner Ray 12 - Steve 7 - Ed 6 - John P. 6
Next up Cartagena
Note: Steve was stuck with two
guys on the first tile and no cards.
And do not underestimate how funny that is.
Cartagena Winner Ed - John P. - Ray - Steve
Oh yes, There was MUCH discussion about having a Diplomacy night. This would be 7 teams (a team is 1 to 2 people) playing this wildly popular game of Risk without dice. Instead you talk your way into and out of situations, diplomacy style. You are the charismatic representative (ambassador?) trying to control the world. You and 6 others. So far, we have 4 countries. Steve, Ray, Ed, and Pritch. So, we 3 other "teams"... Tom , you listening?
