Auf falscher Fährte

Condottiere

Land Unter

Ed Jeff John M.
John P. Steve Ray

Game Night was at Camp Lucky this weekend and spilled over into Sunday at Ray and Jen's. A Canadian outsider joined us this week, his name is Jeff. I know Jeff felt a little nervous being with a bunch of Americans! We decided to take it easy and introduced him to a few easy games. His group seems to be stuck in a Settlers rut, we love the game but it isn't light fare.

First up, Condottiere. I figured this would be a great opener for a newbie. I was right, Jeff said he loved the game. The game was played a little careless, and Steve had an easy win, Jeff pulled a few battles because he was in last place. All in all, it was  a good game.

Condottiere Winner Steve - Jeff - Ed - John M. -  Ray

Next up, Land Unter , this game is holding up well, I think it is the balanced play. Jeff and Steve, both newbies, took a while to catch on. As you can see from the score, it was close for the three veterans. You gotta love them pigs!

Land Unter Winner Tie Ed 14 - Ray 13 - John M. 12 - Jeff 8 - Steve 8

We had a single game on Sunday night, it was a new game called Auf Falscher Fahrte. This is a neat little trick taking game. The catch is, every player plays a card face down at the start of a hand, if the average of the cards is high, you play for most tricks, if it's low, you play for least tricks. You flip a face down card at the end of each trick, starting with the second trick. The deck has four jokers that are null cards, but they let you change trump. I think this will be a good game, but I think it is only good for 3-4 players.

Auf Falscher Fahrte Winner Steve 20 - Ed 19 - John P. 15 - Ray 12

Aladdin's Dragons
Rage

Ashley Byron Don
Ed John M. Noelle

Game Night was canceled at the Eifler home because you can fry an egg on Ray. Don and Noelle stopped by and brought some new meat, his name is Byron. We decided to play a game of Aladdin's Dragon, I was the only person that had played before. I think everyone enjoyed it, I don't remember many comments one way, or the other.

Aladdin's Dragons Winner Don 8 - Ed 7 - Byron 6 - John M. 5 - Noelle 4

John's daughter, (my niece) joined us for a game of Rage!, this one has not been dusted off in a while. Everyone liked it, but it took a while for everyone to catch on. Don had a great game until the last few hands, Noelle had a great, steady pace that ended up winning the game. I ended up, dead last!

Rage! Winner Noelle 92 - Don 73 - Ashley 53 - John M. 48 - Byron 47 - Ed 33

I hope Ray is better next week, my prize from the big puzzle has arrived, it's call Das Amulet! And Ray got Drakken, by the same guy who did Wiz War.

Das Amulett
Drakon
Munchkin
Take 6

Ed Jen John P.
Michelle Pete Ray

I read a description of Drakon and had to get it. A tile based dungeon crawl where you each work independently to gather 4 coins and escape. By the makers of "Wiz-War".  Well, they kept the "Wiz" that's for sure.  This game was a big disappointment.  I just don't see where the good reviews come from.  Tile placement is not very strategic, your constantly looking up symbols to see what they mean, and it crawls in its pacing. We tried twice to see if it was the "first time blues", but it didn't get any better the 2nd game.

Das Amulet. Now here is an interesting game. We describe it two ways. The first is "Aladdin's Dragons" without the superfluous rooms. The second is, "Combine the resource round from Settlers, the bidding from Medici, and the concept of 'flares' from Cosmic and you come up with this game. Easy to learn, fun, a bit too long with 5 players. A bit short with 3 players. You have 10 points to work with. You buy the flare spells, each of which gives you ability and resources. Then you use those resources and abilities to buy gems off the board. 8 gems wins the game. Your unused points do not help you, but if their all tied up then you can't get new spells.

Das Amulett Winner Ed - John P. 6 - Michelle 3 - Pete 3 - Ray 3 Take 6

We needed something mindless to end the night. I remember playing TWO games of Take 6 and I won the first one by a mile. I see history is slanted. I don't have my notes from that night, but the only thing that was slanted that night was your ass, from too many drinks!

Winner Pete 16 - Ed 37 - Ray 38 - Michelle 42 - John P. 53 - Jen 72

We decided to play a card game based on the same concept as Drakon. This time it works. It is by Steve Jackson games (autoduel, illuminati) and works very well. A very 'screw your neighbor' based game. As an adventurer encounters a 'monster', the other players can either help the player, help the monster, or both. A favorite is giving the monster a +10 mega bonus and offering to save the player as an ally for half the treasure. The better half, of course.

Munchkin Winner John P. 10 - Ed 1 - Ray 1
Munchkin Winner Ed 10 - John P. 9 - Ray 8
Munchkin Winner Ed 11 - Ray 9 - John P. 7

Now that we understood the game well, we wanted to play a hard core game of Das Amulet. With three players though, one good turn puts the game out of reach. Both games only lasted 3 turns and ended with one players running away with it.

Das Amulett Winner Ed 8 - Ray 5 - John P. 4

Danger
Munchkin
Zero

Ed Jen John P.
Ray

Small turnout due to my children being carriers of sickypoo. We played Munchkin again, then played some of the newer card games. At one point (that I can't remember either) Prich had very big balls.

Munchkin Winner Ed 10 - Jen 7 - Ray 7 - John P. 4

Danger the game that needs very little skill! I think this is a fun game, but it doesn't take much thought.

Danger Winner John P. 149 - Ray 144 - Jen 123 - Ed 98

My how the fortunes swing. In game one, I was unstoppable. In game two, I was incompetent.

Zero Winner Ray 6 - Jen 25 - Ed 31 - John P. 41
Zero Winner Jen 13 - John P. 15 - Ed 17 - Ray 21
