Take 6
Union Pacific

 Roll Call

Ed Jen John
Michelle Pete Ray
Steve Suzanne Tom

Greetings.Let me just start out by saying that all indications are present for a baby later this week. You will be informed...stay in your homes...

Ok, anyway, I had a hankerin' to play Union Pacific, a longer game.I roped up Tom, Steve, Ed, Johnny early and we began (after an aborted cigar lounge break).Rules were quickly reviewed, and I got most of them right (for a change).Although, I did cause Steve to hold a card longer than he wanted.Tom had never played, but lost 122 to my 124.At the halfway point, Tom was winning and Ed was second.I just could not break into Tom's purple or yellow lines, so I had to settle for Red (with Ed).Since I could not find another dominant line (although I did wrap up White as a mid-level line), I decided to 'steal' the blue chip UP line from Ed.Over the next 5 turns I quickly gained control of the line (pushing Ed to second), and it ended up being the difference.I did not realize it at the time, but Tom being shut out of the UP line cost him to victory.A longer game (90 minutes - 2 hours), but excellent strategy game.

Pete and Michelle came by after we were halfway into the game, distracting us with delicious goodies.I loved the whitefish pate', and hummus is always good, but the buffalo-ass cheese was a surprise I will not soon forget (yech).  So they began a game of RA with Suzanne.Pete creamed them.

We were going to start a game of Medici, but we had a big of a break and afterwards decided that Take 6 would be quick fun.It was that and loud too.Steve's return aborted the first game (which was great for me) and we started in.Steve broke the single game rushing record with so many points he effectively end the game and the next game in one hand. There was much yelling: "Rooney eats it" (when a big pile was taken), "sucking the hind tit" (getting the bad cards), and general profanity. This was especially evident when Suzanne forced me to take a pile of 20 points and I ragged until my throat hurt.Suzanne won that first game, Prich won the second by 3 points!

We are still tentatively on for Saturday, more information to follow...

Games Played

Medici
Take 6

 Roll Call

Ed Jen John
Laura Neal Ray
Steve Suzanne Tom

Didn't think we would have one, but we did!Jennifer waddled around, but did not play any games.Laura and Suzanne snuck a couple of games of Backgammon in before the kids went to bed.(We screened 'The Rugrats Movie' for them.Mostly they spilled popcorn and squealed a lot)Tom was there, Steve and Suzanne, Neal and Laura (left after the kids movie), Ed and Alias Johnny.

Afterwards, it was 2 big games of Medici!!!!We taught Steve to play the first game, and Suzanne to play the second.Steve was a big thumbs up to Medici also, it being a great game that plays in under an hour.Ed won the first game, but I think Tom took the second. Is Medici the perfect game?
I think the lowlight was in the second game, turn two.I ended up with only 4 loads (huge?) in my boat, all low numbers. All singles so I was last in every commodity.Needless to say, I ended up in 4th, not last.

It was then 2 games of "take 6".At one point we were laughing so hard milk came out of my eyes!  Who won?Well, not I.  I lost to Suzanne the first game by 2 freakin' points.Again.I don't even think it matters who wins this gem of a card game because the laughs never stop.

We are hoping that next week will be game night and baby viewing. We'll see.

The Giants play the Ravens in the Superbowl. This will be the first time in history that two teams NO ONE picked to be there, will be there. So, in the interest of using the big TV, assume that I will be having a Superbowl viewing in two weeks.Since the pre-game is 17 hours long on Sunday, stop by with snacks or beer anytime before the kickoff. (6pm?)

[After the Superbowl, we may do some Sunday night at the movies again (just until the long spring days return in May). This Sunday was 'Payback' with Mel Gibson.I watched alone. This film rules.(It is the adult version of 'I want my 2 dollars!").If there is any interest, that is.]I thought this was a great movie too, Payback and Last Man Standing are two, very under-rated films.

Games Played

Princes of Florence
Union Pacific

Roll Call

Ed Jen John M.
John P. Pete Ray

A small game night consisting of Ed, Alias Johnny, Ed's Brother John (first visit), Jen (who played) and myself. We decided once again to take advantage of the smaller group and grabbed for "Princes of Florence".   We added a new fun wrinkle. As with Modern Art, producing a work required a public description of the 'creation'.Always good for a few laugh.  On the very last move, Jen enticed the author of my philosophical epic "Tome of moi" to write a sequel. And with that, she passed me up for first place and won the game.I had to settle for 2nd.

Pete showed up during the 2nd to last turn, so he got to choose the next game.  Much to my pleasure he chose "Union Pacific".Unfortunately for Johnny, somewhere during this game he became the 'track pile shuffle bitch".I was doing surprisingly well considering that ED owned the Green line, Prich the Red line, and Ed's brother John the Yellow line (Until late in the game when I stole it once and for all).In the end, Ed beat me by a scant 8 million on the strength of the Union Pacific line (I held 3rd, Ed higher) and that big Green monster (I was 2nd in Green and first in Yellow at the end).

The Superbowl party consisted of Prich, Phil, Tim & Beth, Theresa and us ordering pizza and drinking beer.In other words, Fun.

I was bummed out that I was not called again for a night of drinking and fun. First was Pasta Night at Pete and Michelle's, now Super Sunday! I did get a postcard for this month, but I can not find it.
